Windows 7 no sound from pc speaker

Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Okay guys, I had audio last night before shutting down but when I turned on my laptop this morning The speaker icon in the system tray indicates that the volume is on mute red x. When I click on the icon, the Troubleshooter automatically starts rather than getting the volume bar. The Troubleshooter tells me that audio services are not started. So I go to the Services window from the Task Manager. When I attempt to start the audio service, I get the error The dependency service or group failed to start.

All the dependencies are showing as "Started" so I am not understanding why I have no audio. The audio device is showing in the Device Manager and appears to be working properly. I was using USB speakers and unplugged them in case they had gone bad, but this has not solved the issue. I then tried the headset. Unfortunately, when plugged in, no audio whatsoever was transmitted from the computer to my ears. Note that I have placed the jacks for both devices in their respective appropriate slots, and these speakers are USB powered.

As well, both the speakers and the headset have been tested on other devices, and are in perfect working order. I then contacted my friend to give me a hand, and when he arrived, we went through and attempted to diagnose the problem and go down the list of possible issues:. At this point, I have purchased a new sound card, to see if it may be a physical issue.

However that will not be arriving for at least 3 days. As such, any further insight would be deeply appreciated. This thread is locked.
